When Taylor was younger, he never dreamed of playing the drums. Actually, he wanted to sing and play guitar. Taylor remembers that a neighbor let him try their kit, and that he picked up a beat really quickly, but he still wanted to play guitar until "...I found out how long it takes and what a pain in the ass it is [guitar]... No, seriously, drums were just really easy for me, and in the end I think they were more natural for my personality."
         Taylor never really took lessons. He tried one or two, but hated it, so he taught himself; he learned off of records. The records that he said really taught him to play were: Live Killers - Queen; Zenyatta Mondatta - The Police; and the Specials' album produced by David Bowie. Taylor once got second in a drumming competition of sixty, which was incredible considering that he had developed his own technique and the other participants were studying drummers who had gone
to lessons. Before becomming a professional musician, Taylor worked in a record store. Taylor was in a trio caled Sylvia with friends, but he quit to tour with Sass Jordan...he quit that to tour with Alanis Morissette, and quit her band to be in Dave Grohl's "band", and is now part of the Foo Fighters.
